Welcome to the Department of Chemistry at the University College Cork. The Department of Chemistry is one of the largest, most dynamic centres of scientific scholarship in Ireland with a focus on excellence in both education and research, and a particularly strong track record in PhD education. The strength and diversity of our undergraduate degree programmes attracts a large cohort of talented students to study chemistry at UCC, including students from as far away as the USA and China. The breadth and vitality of our research includes the interdisciplinary fields of pharmaceutical chemistry, materials science and nanotechnology, and environmental chemistry, as well as the traditional core disciplines of inorganic, organic, physical, and analytical chemistry. These strengths, together with the international reputation of several of our staff, draws a large number of post-graduate students to UCC, from Ireland, Britain, Europe, and further afield. Our research strength also attracts many international post-doctoral fellows and visiting scientists to our department, making it a large, cosmopolitan place for the advancement of science. The Department of Chemistry plays an important strategic role in the region through its extensive interactions with industry both nationally and internationally.
